Benefits of a homestead exemption…

*Potentially reduces the amount of property taxes owed on the property. 

*Exemption may extend to the home and up to 20 acres of land used for a purpose related to the residential use of the homestead. 

*Different taxing entities give different exemptions, depending upon the type of taxing entity and location.

See attached https://www.tad.org/homestead-exemption/ applications and information for Tarrant County. If you are under 65 years old, choose general exemption (50-114-A). Don’t pay any service to do assist you with this because it might be fraudulent.  Make sure you updated your driver’s licenses to show your new home address (which proof is required to be attached to homestead form). If you have have not file from previous years or forgot to file, you still have time. The county usually allows you to file for the past two years.
